I posted this in the planted section, and no answers...

So I have a 125g tank that I want to do something different with.
I've thought about making it saltwater, as I have a reef tank already but wanted something bigger, but it would just be too expensive in the long run, and then I found paludariums...

Some things I wanted to know before I even got thinking about this though...
Mold. How to stop the humidity of roughly 70 gallons of water creating mold and fungi all over the land part of the tank?

Also, could I drain the tank one day, set it up the next and then put the fish back in?
I have fish in my tank that I want to keep and I was thinking of storing them in a 50g rubbermaid tub for the night (with my filter) and then putting that water back in the tank?

One more thing - Would a Fluval Fx5 work with this?

Any answers are appreciated :)

Oh and also, I wanted to create the land portion with foam. So where could I get that?

Go to Lowes or HD or some place like that and get the big styrofoam sheets used for insulation. You can glue the sheets together to get the desired thickness and carve it up into whatever shape you want

I would agree, depending on the method used, if could take MUCH longer. If you were to get everything ready outside of the tank, make the land part just an insert you need to glue in, then it would only take maybe a couple hours+ drying time for whatever adhesive you use to hold in the land part, but it should probably cure for at least a couple days before refilling the tank

That's what I was thinking of doing, andy.
No worries though. If I go through with this then I'll slim my stock down to a few fish I'm going to keep, then move them to the Rubbermaid tub for a few days with my fx5.

I was just thinking though, how will I attach my filter to the water, if the water is halfway down the tank?
My intake can be stretched to the bottom (where it is right now), but the output attachment can only be stretched to just under the lip...Help on this please?

As to the styrofoam sheets, thanks for that idea. If I go with the foam, I'll definitely do this...But I may do fibreglass as suggested by my dad...Whichever is easier I guess. He's just worried about the foam going all mushy with the water.

Have you thought about doing a riparium? You wouldn't have to move your fish out at all to do that and it gives a similar effect.

Guessing from that pic, the only difference between a riparium and a paludarium is that there's no land...correct?
I kind of want a nice land piece. I was thinking of adding an anole or two, then maybe a frog.
