I have posted numerous times about my choc cichlid having very persistent anchor worm of which I have used Iodine on the fins and waterlife parazin (currently on day 5) and although the fish is eating and is slightly more active I am still concerned that the fish is deteriorating. It is starting to look like the fish lateral line is eroding (although I could just be paranoid, please see pic at the bottom). Again all other fish are fine, water quality is fine, and filtration is more than sufficient.

I really want to quarantine the sick individual but the only other tank I am running (and have space for) is my sons tank.

This tank is only a 12 gal running an internal fluval U2. Could I possibly use this as a quarantine tank for a couple of weeks? The choc cichlid is approx 6.5 inches in length. Using the smaller tank I would be able to do 50% water changes daily and run some further meds if required without effecting all the other healthy fishImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1387796512.521947.jpg

You could use the 12 gallon as a hospital tank. I have a couple 10 gallons I use for hospital/quarantine tanks. I use them bare bottom with a 25-50 watt heater and a air stone. 50% water changes daily in between med applications is a very good strategy also.

Thanks for the reply.

Do you think that size is sufficient for a 6.5inch fish? Also how long should I put the fish in there for?

Tank is fine. As long as you keep the water clean you could leave him in there for as long as necessary to take care of the issue. If the fish can swim turn around and eat the tank is sufficent for treatment. Again, just keep the water clean and your good.

To be honest I don't think I have got a choice any more, I think this is the only option left.

I will do a large water change before putting the fish in the tank. I also plan to put some more iodine on to the worms and then run the parazin again...if this fails I literally don't know what more I can do.
