So I will be getting some new fish and I want to quarentine them or atleast isolate them for a few days before I put them in my main tank. I want to ask how do i go about setting up a quarentine tank with having to re-cycle the tank? What I have done is taken some of the water of the main tank and filled it 50% into my quarentine tank and the rest of the water is new water. Is this okay? It's running a sponge filter on it. Any suggestions.

Sorry if this seems like a stupid question...

The easiest way is to keep a filter running on a established tank. The bacteria you need is in the filter, not the water. When you need to QT fish, just take the filter out of your established tank and put it in your QT.

Then how will I filter my main tank?

Use a second, smaller filter on your main tank.Just keep the sponge filter you have running in your main tank, and when you need to QT fish, put water in the QT tank, and take the sponge filter out of your main tank, and put it in the QT tank.

Okay that makes sense thank you.
