Hey guys, I recently bought a 5ft tank of someone, and currently I'm trying to set it up. I've got a few problems with the sump set up, since it's my first time and the instructions the last owner gave me aren't particularly helpful.

Question 1: Is it alright to emerge host clamps into the water? My tank will be SW, and the filter piping I already have has hose clamps on them, and some of them are beginning to rust. Will this be a problem? Becaue I imagine it would be. I'm trying to connect the plastic pipes to the filter, but it will involve submerge at least one host clamp into the water.

more questions when I come across more problems!

I would not put the metal in contact with the water. Above that, SW corrodes the metal

Do you thinl I can get away with not using any clamps on the hosing that connects to the pump? The opening of the hosing was the same as size as the pump outlet, so I had to place the rubber hosing into some hot water, heat it up so it'll fit into the pump. Will that be alright? The pump is 2700/hr I think.

Personally, I like the idea with the plastic zip ties. I am using them on several systems with good success.

Another alternative is to plumb the pump with PVC pipe above and beyone where it is submerged.

Hmm, well if the cable ties really work wonders then i will get a bunch and tie the heck outta my pipes! I can't afford the pipes coming lost and spraying 2700L/hr of salt water everywhere, not that I'm too woried about the cleaning, but I'm more worreid about my welfare when my mum sees the mess!

Buy the GOOD nylon ties, and check to see if they have the metal catch inside the head (some do and some are stainless some are not).

You can get stainless hose clamps from Lowes. Don't get them from Home depot though I did and they were just stainless coated so they started to rust.
