Setting up a 125. 72 X 19 X 22. I'm planning on 5 Balas, 3 Tinfoil Barbs, a pleco or 2, Some snails and I was thinking 4 Bichir (upper jaw only). I'll be running a eshopps WD-300CS and a pump. 1600 GPM. And a sponge or 3. Heater or 2. Pool Sand Substrate, I'm planning on planting the aquarium, Hiding spots, and the like. My question is this...Too many fish?

I'm inclined to say it's a bit much. Maybe not too bad if you have smaller bichirs, but those Balas get a bit big, but don't grow too fast.

I wouldn’t go with the balas as they will eventually outgrow that tank, tinfolils would work but because of their size will limit your stock, I would go with a group of medium sized barbs and bichirs like a group of 5-6 filament barbs or spanner barbs as they are big enough not to get eaten but also very entertaining to watch

I would agree the tank size would be better suited to barbs in the 6" range, as such active swimming fish, the tinfoils and balas will look cramped in a 125 once they are eventually huge. I used to have clown barbs, they got big and were bright red, very nice barbs.
