Hello all thanks for clicking on my thread, I plan to make a mixed aquarium with emphasis on combining different species with cichlids, all the fish will be brought young and raised with dither fish.

Specs of tank.
5'x2'x3' wide.
2x 300 watt Eheim Jager heaters
large Fluval filter (came with the tank, I'll add more filtration as the fish grow)

I brought the tank off of Kijiji.ca for $200 with steel stand, filter, glass lid. was A great bargain unfortunately I couldn't fit the tank into the basement so I tried to take it to pieces, which failed and I ended up squeezing it down the stairs only to break one of the 3' side panels. after a few months I purchased the new side panel and glass pane that fits into the corner for support. stripped all the silicone from the tank.

November 07 2011
Resealed the edges of the tank, pushing the silicone into the edge with the nozel and then using my finger to smoothe it off. Attatched the new side panel to create a complete tank, leave to set over night. here are some pics (the tape is anti smear and is just helping to keep the new glass in place aswell as the black edging I siliconed on.

November 08 2011 (today)
Added a thick line silicone in every edge for extra protection and water proofing, the silicone from last night is almost set but I am still able to silicone over it. Later on this evening I plan to attach the support pane of glass that goes at the top middle of the tank to stop the glass bowing and allow the lid to be fitted. Once I have done that I will stick the rest of the Plastic edging onto the tank, and Take some pictures.

May I also add that I made my own hood by buying a garage hanging hood from home depot ($17) and then fixing the aquarium lights inside (one full sprectrum one colour max)

and to finish off the first update here is a picture of the first fish for the tank, who will occupy the top region, hes just chilling in my african tank rigjht now

Champsochromis Caeruleus (this guy is so hard to photograph sorry for the blur)

Thanks :) Nowhere near finished with it, just enjoying having such flexible dimensions!

Now thats a footprint. Im from Saskatchewan here we are lucky to have deals like that. maybe ill drive to calgary next time to pick up a tank

Excellent footprint! What a deal on that tank nice job! What are your plans for filtration down the road? Maybe you can bounce some ideas off of us in this section and get some ideas, that is what most of us in the section are into after all. I like the simplicity of the stand. If it were my tank, I would go 3D background (slim) and a couple of FX5's or a sump. When I had my old 220, I used a sump and an FX5 and loved the combo.

I'm setting up a 225 with the same dimensions right now. :) I really like the 30" width, doesn't seem like it's a lot more than 24" on paper but in person it really seems like it is.
