Setting up my 55g, what else am I missing?

Today I purchased the black background along with about $50.00 worth of black sand. I need to set it up asap because my Buttikoferi is probably tired of being in a divided tank. I am going to purchase two EMP 400's, a 250 watt stealth heater from Big Al's. Is a powerhead or Air Pump Necessary? What am I missing?

powerhead not needed, air pump makes pretty bubbles if thats what you like. i always put two heaters on tanks 4' or longer as one will creat a hot side and a cold side.

Air pump will get the job done.

As long as you EMP 400's are making a water fall effect and creating bubbles there is no need for a air pump other than looks. no powerhead is needed, you sound like you have everything you need to get your tank set up

Cool thanks guys....am in the dilemma now to keep the black sand or return it for dark red/maroon sand since I already have an all black background. Anyone ever use dark red sand before?

I haven't used red sand, but am getting black sand for a tank with a black background. I have black gravel in it now and looks good, but there are african cichlids in there so all the dark colors brings out the colors of the fish.
