Well Today I found a steal of a deal, 50$ bux for a 48x18x21 Tank, 80 US gallons. It of course had an issue, the top brace was melted. The guy had kept a turtle in the tank, and of course there was a heat lamp of some sort that had melted the center bracing. The rest of the top brace was in overall good condition for a model year 2005 tank, so I tossed the chump 50 bucks, and took it home. Then I broke out ye olde grinder, and cut out the melted portion of the center support brace. I then cut an 18" by 5" chunk of 1/2 acrylic I had laying around and fastened it to what was remaining of the center support brace. In my opinion it is stronger now than it was before.

I haven't got the tank set up yet as I have just repaired the bracing. However, I did manage to pick up a stand donated to me by a friend. I have one Sun-Sun 303b canister filter, and I will be picking up another tomorrow from Jalepeno(an MFK member).

I am thinking of doing a pool filter sand mixed with fine white blasting sand substrate and decorating the tank with rocks and driftwood.

Do you think I will have enough filtration with the Sun-Sun filters, or should I add a couple hang on backs, and if so which hang on back filters do you suggest?

Just a heads up, the silicone holding that aquarium together is more then likely ammonia saturated from the reptile that it once housed.

Does silicone really "soak up" chemicals?

This is a pic from last year of a 29 temp tank that a freind of mine had a bearded dragon in for 8 or so years before it got in my hands. I water tested it and have head it running in many different ways for over a year with no issues. One of the sides of this are melted and deformed a bit from a heat lamp on the tank for so long but holds water perfect. On the bottom of this tank its manufactore date is 1996. Just water test it and if it doesnt leak your golden. Good luck and those are a standard 75 gallon demensions.
