while my dad was taking care of my fish, the power went out and apparently the motor on my current ac70 ran dry for a little and my dad was afraid it would burn up so he ran over to the pet store and picked up a 2nd ac70.

my question was do i need to rinse out any of the media that comes with the new ac70 prior to putting it on my tank? run it on a rubbermaid tub of tank water first? if i don;t rinse it and put it on my tank will it cloud my water or anything?.. you get the point, haha.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

well just transfer the media from the old one to the new one..

regarding new media, just rinse it off a couple times to get debris from the manufacturing, and youre fine. but seriously, just take the media from the old one and transfer it...that is, unless you already threw out/ removed the old media from the old filter already, which means the bacteria is dead, so theres no point using old media.

if your old filter is still full of tank water and media, transfer it to new AC70.
if it is already thrown out or has been out of water for a while, dont bother, the bacteria will be dead.

How long since this happen? you need bacteria on your filter, so if it hasn't been to long you can use the same media, otherwise you need to get some from a cycle tank. For the new media, yes rinse it but if you use it i will cloud your tank in no time because of the lack of bacteria.

woops, sorry guys, i guess i left out a few details. the old filter works, old media is fine, i'm just setting up a second ac70 on my 55

sorry bout that, and thanks for the attention and replies
