I need some help setting up my Clown Knifes new tank..have not decided whether it will be a 125gal and we will up grade later or whether we will get the 180gal..but what ever we decide i need help making it a tank that will show off my beautiful boy.. would white sand be okay for him or would another substrate show him off better.. just want to do it right from the start.. and what color background..maybe you can show me some tanks with your ck in it.. i have plenty of time but would like to know ahead what i need to get..i want to really show my favorite fish off... heres his pic in case you have not seen him before, this new house will be going in with him so the color should contrast with it and not clash..thanks

Well...I got mine in a pretty dark tank. I have black sand and a black background. I think it might be too dark since it's color isn't all too bright. I think if you use normal color sand or white sand with a black background, it would look good. The last pic is my old CK with some of his old friends.

That is a beautiful CK and he looks good no matter what tank colors..but yes i agree white with black background would be better to have him stand out..thanks Benzjamin,

I agree on the light sand/dark background, really brings out the contrast in the fish that way. On a side note, liz, sorry to hear about your fire/pacu disaster. I'm glad to hear you're putting it past you and moving on to setting up bigger and better tanks--

seriously always go for the biggest tanks. i started my 2 CKS in a pond and they are over 3 feet in just 2 years!!! dont hinder their growth.

i would do sand, with slate and driftwood. I dont give him places to hide really. He hangs out with my pikes under the driftwood (i have a lot of it) he will readily eat out of my hand. he goes NUTS during feeding time lol. he tries to steal food out of everyones mouth

I HAVE AN ALBINO CK AND I USED BLACK ROCKS AND DARK BACKGROUND FOR HIM. HE HAS ONE LOG TO HIDE IN,WHICH HE DOES ALL DAY. USE BOTANY SAND IT COMES OUT REALLY WHITE AFTER A FEW DAYS OF FILTRATION.TRY TO KEEP FURNITURE SMOOTH TO PREVENT NASTY SCRATCHES. IF YOU WANNA SEE HIM WHILE THE LIGHTS ARE ON DON'T GIVE HIM HIDING SPOTS AS DRZACHARYUS SAID THEY DO TAME UP AND READILY EAT OUT OF YOUR HAND. BUT ONLY IF HES NOT HIDING.
