Setting up another tank. Got a 250gal to set up for more Rays and wanted to know something. Anyone know the difference in Aquarium sand and Play sand. Has anyone used playsand and had luck with it or any problems with it. thanks

I have heard of people having success with pool filter sand

I think play sand is a bad idea but I couldn't tell you the exact reason. I am sure someone can though

I used play sand it was fine, needs a bit of cleaning and took me a couple of hours on a 100g i don't use it now as it's easier to keep on top of things with a barebottom tank.

ya, thought about doing a bare tank also. just the two I plan to moe to this tank love to hide in the sand. so may add some kind of sand later.
thanks

I am using the estes beige marine sand, safe for fresh and saltwater. It looks natural, is very smooth, silicate free and does not buffer the pH. It did not cloud my water and does not linger in the water when disturbed.

If you must have sand, read the label & make sure that the pool or play variety is not a silica based product.
