ive got a 1000L tank and wondering can i run a canister filter through a hole. or do i need a sump?

Is the tank already drilled?
If so where? Bottom...back (how high up)
If in the bottom there may be too much pressure for a canister otherwise yes, a couple canisters can do it, just don't overstock.
I prefer W/D system on that big of a tank.

I've seen canisters plumbed to the bottom holes of tanks I remember the guy ran a straight piece of pvc the attched both canisters.... a wet/dry would be a better choice though
oh ok thanks. do you think Fluval FX5 could run it alone? i wont overstock it will probably be a single fish tank and maybe just little africans, so what do you guys think?
