so re arranging tanks and fish for my L14 and eventually L200s. As far as I understand these are not wood eating pelcos. Do I need to have any wood in their tanks or can I get away with just clay caves? Also has anyone had either pleco chew on polypterus? I would love to move my big sunshine into my 125 with my polypterus.

I constantly see my scobis rasping on the wood I have in the tank just as much as my hypostomus and panaque. I think they use it to shed their teeth. If you have a bare bottom tank you can find lots of teeth from them scattered around. They look like little rib bones.

I keep mine with a single old Senegal. I have never seen a mark on it. It actually lives with 30 plecos all 5"+ and doesn't mind them at all.
