Hey whats up.. basically i have a 125 gallon tank.. i have had it for quiet sometime and i have been through numerous fish with this tank. My question is simple.. I am going to get piranhas again.. but I want to have the best setup i can have.. from filtration to gravel to airpumps to lighting to chemicals.. whats the best brands or most efficient equipment to purchase... If you can send pictures of your tanks or products you mention to my email FB3@HOTMAIL.COM thank you to all who respond...

Welcome to MFk from a fellow philly guy.
The only thing I can say is "I" would build a wet/dry for the tank.Dont know much about piranha so thats all I can offer

thanks for the info..greatly appreciate it.

A wet/dry is best for biofiltration and air exchange purposes. Overhangs are good for picking up tank debris. That's the way I have my 125 filtered.

Congradulations on choosing some great waste generators...:nilly:

If you but get them really small and only 4, this system could last you 8 months..:D

A big vote of yes for the W/D (50g), being a 125g you'll probably need to turn your tank about 10X/hr to keep it clean. Do a search on drip systems here, it something to consider.

I prefer to build everything myself (and usually over-engineer) but all this is available manufactured.

Good luck and watch the fingers.

When choosing filtration you also have to consider your entire tank set-up. Planted tanks generally do not do as well with a wet/dry as they do with a canister since the water movement causes the gassing out of CO2.
If your tank is not planted, either one is fine.

it will be planted... so canister seems the way to go then....thanks..

thanks again to those who responeded.. after reading the responses and reading quiet a few other post I decided to go canister... I bought a Filstar XP3.. which is for up to a 175 gallon tank.. and since i have a 125 gallon thats more than enough filtration and i must admit already I like it.. Its very quiet and easy to clean...and was even easier to setup.

Hi Nitti & Welcome to MFK!

Just keep in mind that RBPs are really omnivores and will eat your plants if they feel you are being stingy with the food. If you kept them with plants before than I am sure you know them well enough.

And we love pics here. Video of a feeding will rock our world!
