Yesterday me and my friend were throwing around ideas regarding redtail catfish and we got onto the topic of the largest ever recorded and what size tank would have actually been required for it (63 inches) and somehow got onto the topic of how much shipping it from the Amazon where it would have been found to America would cost. He's saying it would cost somewhere around $4,000 and I'm saying it would cost closer to $10,000. Anyone able to settle our debate?

Why run the risk of losing all that money and the thing dying in transit when just about every fish store has them waiting for someone to give them a suitable forever home.

I think 4k. Oddball Oddball Spent a lot on sawfish shipping if I recall correctly

Dang, I owe him $5 now.....
So transporting a 5 foot catfish would only cost around 5k? I thought it would have been twice that....
K krichardson we had been talking about basically a multi billionaire and how'd he get his fish. He couldn't be seen walking into just any pet store, no that would have been frowned upon by the other multi billionaires lol, he had to get the world record holder to impress his friends... After all, aquariums are accessories for most rich people. A symbol of their wealth. "Oh I can drop $300,000 on a fish tank and it's like spending $1,000 for a normal person". Not all rich people are like that though.

Ah,I see.

Your guess is definitely close. Between paying all the people involved, health certificates, an export permit, and the container the fish is actually shipped in, you're looking at well over 5k.

I would love to see the shipping box that a 5 foot red tailed catfish would be shipped in. I'm guessing 8 feet by 3 feet high?
