Settling Sand?

I just put pool filter sand in one of my small aquariums. How long does it take to settle out. Its been in there 3 hours and still looks the same. Just muddy water.

No Wasnt exactly sure how to go about doing that.

Just use your hand and swirl the water around, it will get the air out and sink.

It should not turn the water muddy though.

What kind of sand did you use?

sand can be a pain in the butt, ive used silica sand and play sand u really got to spend some time washing it. when i first put it in the tank i only fill about a quater of the way full with water let it settle and then add the rest. also using about 1 cup of similar colored gravel per pound of sand really helps.....but im no expert
