boil it

i have gravel plastic and decorations my fish in it had a disease i emptied the water our how can i clean the decorations and gravel and empty tank to insure that my new fish will be ok?

If it was just fin rot i dont think you really need to go to such extremes, just make sure you keep water quality up. If you are really sketchy on it though, boiling gets rid of bacteria and parasites so that could help put your mind at ease

Yeah, bleach and any other chemicals will be bad for the fiish and any other inhabitants...So take any of the bigger stuff out and boil it, this can work for the gravel too if your reusing it. Or just pick up new stuff as needed.

The tank itself, clean it out with fresh water and use vinegar to wipe down surfaces, it is natural and will clean out with water flushes. Try to use zero chemicals regardless.

Bleach is actually the best solution, If your tank is still filled with water you can add appropriate amount of bleach, the bottle will tell you how much to add per gallon. Then empty out as much of the water as you can, let whatever moisture is left evaporate, the bleach will completely evaporate with the water and will not be harmful to the fish.

If you have already emptied your tank then soak your rocks and decor in a bucket with bleach diluted with water, after 24 hours empty the bleach and set the decor on a towel to evaporate the rest of the moisture. Wipe down the tank its self with bleach water as well.

I know this works from experience, I bought a used tank and put my fish in it and they all died, I soaked it in bleach let it evaporate and restocked it and my fish are doing great a month later.

This is what I would do. I would fill up the tank with everything in it and add a bunch of bleach depending on how big your tank is and keep everything running (filters, heater etc...). Hopefully the bleach won't take off any of the color on your decorations and plants. Then I would empty the tank, clean my filter, refill your tank, add water, start filter and dump a bottle of water conditioner in it. Let it run for a couple of days. This should take care of the disease and the water conditioner will take care of the chlorine in the bleach. Hope this helps, The Doctor.
