I picked up this tank yesterday(thanks Keystone) and I'm not familiar with sumps at all, and the little I do know is about sumps which are usually underneath the tank.

As requested JK47...here are the pics!!!

Any ideas or suggestions on setting up this tank greatly appreciated.

BTW...this was a saltwater tank I will be using it for freshwater...

The first 3 pics are of the tank in it's original home, the last pics are of my husband and daughter cleaning the tank in the rain!! Just couldn't wait :screwy:

The tank does have a few scratches and is definitely going to need a good buffing. (never done that before either..this is going to be interesting )

This tank is gonna have insane biological filtration if you fill the back with bioballs.

I'll guess u just add a prefilter (optional) like a sponge in the small column next to the overflow intake so that your bioballs doesn't get clogged up with debris and a submersible pump at the opposite end and its good to go.

Great tank btw

you'll need a prefilter. use eggcrate and wrap filter material around it and place it in the 1st compartment. and of course a pump and you should be set.

All those chambers are screaming for different grade mechanical. I saw DIY cut to fit/easy to clean mech chambers. That is a BUTTLOAD of buiomedia that won't be used, you might as well polish up with CL tank with super fine mechanical for the hubby. Dennis and his CL's will love you for it ;) I'm thinking magdrive 9 submersible pump if the chamber will fit. What are the in/out bulklhead fittings/plumbing sizes?

ps - only true MFK'ers clean tanks in the rain.... and in shorts.... and in pink boots lol!! Clockwork has a pink pair just like those!

Yea, It came with a buttload of bioballs...

I think the previous owner just used bioballs, cause they are filled with gunk...so I will definitely be using a prefilter, thanks for the heads up :D

Great tank btw

Thanks..

I was considering the Mag-drive submersible...found one at Drs Foster and Smith yesterday, glad to see I'm not as uninformed as I thought I was...good lookin Justin :D. I believe the fittings are 3/4" I will double check when I get home from work...

Thanks Guys :grinno:

Happy New Year MFK!!! I spent most of the holidays sanding and polishing this tank. I had to rush setup of this tank due to the slow progress on my 195g build. I have until Jan 15 to pick up my Tig and since it seems as if the 195g wont be up and running by then I had to get this tank up ASAP.

That said, I didn't have the time to take pics during the sanding/polishing process however I will upload pics of the 100g this evening. I must say it turned out pretty nice. There are still a couple of scratches but with the water in it you can't tell. It is up and running and has been cycling for the last two weeks. My LFS owner gave me a Rena 2500 pump for the tank, I needed to buy a new impeller, all in all it was a great deal. I have found that it really isn't creating much current so I will add a couple powerheads in a couple weeks.

Still need to add a background, substrate and lighting and will most likely get a new stand and canopy as well. I'm trying to convince my hubby to make that a DIY project for the both of us. I take him to home depot every week and browse the tool dept. I even say " oooh look at that miter saw" or " I love that table saw". It isn't working yet, but I'm persistent and I wont give up til he cracks under the pressure ;)

This tank still needs a lot of final touches that will come later and I will probably start another thread on it's makeover but for now it will serve it's purpose as a holding tank until my 195g is complete.

Pics soon...

Very nice tank. Looks like my 90 seaclear system II. Mine has the same built in sump in the back. You can buy the actual plastic frame with prefilter and drip tray from Casco, and my pump is just an 801 powerhead turned sideways. Any pump should work though.

One word of caution. A fair amount of debris still gets into the biochambers and cleaning is a bit if a pita. I usually clean out one side every 6 months or so. I pull out all the bioballs on one side and give them a good rinse in tankwater. It's messy and a pain, but you'll be surprised how much gunk gets in there.

I also run several canisters on the tank as well. Good luck.

Thanks for the heads up, I wondered why the chambers and bioballs were such a mess when I bought the tank. It took forever to clean especially since this was previously a saltwater tank. There was so much coraline algae in there everyone in my family took turns scrubbing and scraping.

I did put some filter foam in the chamber next to the overflow chamber as a pre-filter to catch some of the debris before it gets to the bioballs, it seems to be helping. Once I get my 195g all setup I will revamp this 100g tank and probably add more filtration. Do you mind posting some pics of your setup? Until now I had never seen this type of tank before, it would be nice to see how yours is setup.

Absolutely. I dont have any pics of the filter area but I'll take some tonite and post them up. You can see pics of the 90 from the front in my albumns but it's just of the inhabitants and scape.

I'll get a bunch of overhead shots of the filter area up tonight. Sorry I'm out on my iPhone right now am I'm not so picture savvy without a computer.lol
