I am running out of both options and time. At this point I appreciate any and all advice, suggestions, and input, even criticism, that might help me save my flowerhorn.
Roughly a year ago I rescued a flowerhorn, Squishy. He was abandoned at my local fish store, chucked into a 10 gal tank, starved, riddled with ich, and left to rot. I was having none of that and adopted him on the spot. Within two months of attentive care and medication, he became a fat, healthy, angry little beast.
But two months ago that changed, gradually. His appetite started to decrease. He was always a grumpy eater but this was different. And now, he all out refused to eat ANYTHING, and i have tried everything that i can possibly think of to help him.
Squish & Tank specs :
Amm. 0, Ni. 0, Na. 2-5. Temp *86 F
60 gal, only him.
Scattered tall plastic plants
Large sized pebbled rocks
Marineland Emperor 400 Pro Bio-Wheel Filter - ( the only type he has yet to snap the intake off of.)
Fin edges darkened- suspected stress.
Significant weight loss.
NO behavioral change
NO sign of illness by, spotting, reddening, fungus, or fading.
NO flashing.
NO injuries.
NO labored gilling.
NO erratic or strange swimming changes.
Attempted Fixes, to no success whatsoever . . . . . :
-Bacterial treatment, for the heck of it. (melafix.)
- *he had already been treated for parasites extensively upon adoption
-Major water change
-Temporary oxygen increase - no effect
-Feeding his favorite cichlid pellets and dried krill - refused
-Feeding frozen krill - ate one. refused after
-Feeding bloodworm and brineshrimp - refused
-Feeding beefheart - ate one. refused after.
-Lacing food with garlic to entice eating - refused
-Wiggling food dramatically - refused
-Hand feeding - refused. He'd rather just bite me.
-LIVE FISH - refused. They now live in an awkward harmony with each other. He couldn't care less.
-Heater replacement
Yet, with all this refusal, he still jumps at an opportunity to try and bite me. He's always been like that though.
So . . . . by your view . . . is this the end of the line? His age is ultimately unknown, but . . . have I done all that I can for him?
NOTE- Pictures show a prior to weight loss and current day.
