I have Red spot severum that I'm trying to acclimate to my community tank but the first 1 died overnight and I'm about to try with another one.

I quarantined the first and periodically added water from the large tank to the small tank so it can get used to the same water. Then I moved it to large tank.

But I woke up and it was dead...... it's 3'' in length and so is the new one.

I am in need of some suggestions that might help keep the fish alive.

Thanks,

nick

I've always done the 'floating bag', adding a cup of water from the destined tank every 5-10 minutes or so. After about 15-20 (though I should wait more) I scoop the fish out of the bag with a net, and into the tank they go.

I haven't lost a fish doing this yet. *knock on wood*

yeah i float the bag... did you make sure the temp is the same???? sevs arent usually very hard to aclimate...even red fire. I mean at the least id think they would end up with ick... but its DOA ...?

Same here .

I actually did all those things first, I must have just had a freak incident because i've never lost a fish besides this severum. I guess i'll just try again. thanks for the input

i always do drip acclimation, put a air line in with a small knot to allow water to slowly drip and mix. then put the bag in the new tank to get the temp right

Agreed. I'd never "float" anything bigger the small tetras etc.

Your fish have suffered from chemical shock by the sounds of things.

Get yourself a big bucket, tip the bag into there, run an airline siphon into it, tie a couple of knots, leave for 30 minutes - 1 hour, and net out the fish, throw them in the tank.

I've had great success with this for wild fish, all types of sevs etc.

Give it a go, it takes more time, but its a great safety net.
