I have 2 gold severums and 3 clown loaches in a 65 gallon tank. Does anyone know of any smaller fish that are active and will work well with them?

And yes I know the tank is too small. But they are all small at the moment so I can upgrade in the future.

Thanks.

more clown loaches? You'll find them far more active and interesting in a larger group. Some medium sized mid-swimming fish would be nice too, guess it depends when you're upgrading and how big you're going...

+1

Add 2-3 more clown loaches to fill the bottom layer and see their unique social behavior.

2 sevs pretty much maxes out the middle layer, so you are left with picking some nice deep bodied top dwellers like giant danios, black skirts, lemon tetras, etc.

You could add some more middle layer dwellers if you plan to upgrade in the next 3-4 months. Otherwise I wouldn't risk it.

I would probably look to upgrade my tank in a year or so when I can save up the money.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was thinking of getting more clown loaches. They are pretty interesting on the few times I see them out.

Would any top dwelling community fish that is around 1-2 inches work well in the tank then ? I have 4 red eyed tetras in another tank would they work well ?

Loaches get more active and feel more at ease in larger groups, so adding more will likely result in them being out more.

You will want something at least 2" long with a fairly deep body. Otherwise they will eventually become severum snacks. Red eyes should be fine.

I will go with a few red eyes then for now. What about a good clean up crew. I have an algae problem that is kept under control by water changes, but it would be nice to have some fish to help.

I would guess that shrimp and the smaller cleaner fish wouldn't work because of the severums. Plecos maybe ?

My upside down catfish does a pretty good job of eating algae, flagtail do really well too they just get rather large.
