Would I be able to have a school of boesemani rainbow fish in with 1 Severum and 4-6 red tapajõs geophagus?

theres nothing in the tank yet ( which is a Rio 400) but if I was able I would get the Severum , geos, rainbowfish, and one or two plecos

Would they typically get along and would it be overstocking the tank , it’s 450 litres but accounting for water displacement id say around 435 litres maybe 430

Welcome aboard

You could do the Severum, Redhead Tapajos , and Rainbow fish while they were small. The aquarium would be overstocked when they mature.

how many would I be able to have for them it to not be overstocked? Would a different schooling fish be a better choice?

You don't really need a schooling fish with a severum and a large enough group of Redhead for that 400 litre aquarium.

the aquarium is 450 litres (although if you work out the volume it’s 508 litres which is strange ) I’m still thinking of ideas to put in I’m not dead set yet , but I would like to have the Severum what would I be able to peacefully keep with one? I also want one or two L number plecos

Severum (your centerpiece it sounds like) and plecos would work, basically most fish without the same body shape as the severum would work. That's why redhead geos would work. Without the geos you can add 8+ schooling rainbows with the severum and 2 plecos (best to pick ones that do not go past 10" total length).

Aside from the reasons already stated, Boesemani rainbows tend to like slightly more alkaline, higher pH and mineral content water than severums.
If your tap water is neutral this may be a moot point and somewhat negate my anal attitude about correct water parameters for species.
But below is the type water severums are collected in.

To me, proper dither type tank mates, would be geographically correct tetras from S America that thrive in the same type water, and be large enough not to be tempting as a snack.
