I thought I bought a green severum but may have accidentally bought a brown. It is currently about 4 inches. It is not as green as other severums I have had in the past and its eyes are brown, not the brilliant red I had in
previous severums. I have heard that there are brown severums as well as green. Do you think I may have a green that just hasn't colored up yet?
Could I have a brown severum that is just not as brightly colored as a green severum? Any help would be appreciated. I may trade in if people do not
think it will color up. I really like the red eyes of green severums.

Shouldn't you pick your fish out of the shop so you're sure that it's the type you want?

I bought a Green Severum just under a week ago, and while its often brown bordering on Black I think it's awesome. It changes colour depending on where in the tank it is, it's currently 2" long. It has red eyes.

i think the brown sev is basically still in juvenile coloration or is stressed.
once you put them in a tank they will show their green coloration...
but having said that there are other severum species beyond your green or that nasty IMHO albino version...

yes their are several but i still have never seen one that is brown.

i think that you are probbaly correct that it is not colored up yet or very stressed but i would still like to see a pic.

A few years ago my lfs had a Sev labled as a brown Severum. It was dark brown in color and very unattractive but I bought it anyway knowing it was just stressed. Sure enough I got it home in my tank and shortly thereafter she turned a nice bluish-green color with nice yellow/orange eyes. Great wet pet...very interactive.

Its probably just stressed, but more than likely its still juvenile, my severums where brown in coloration when they were smaller, and on occasion you would be able to see the green more when they finally matured, they start showing the green more in the face while the majority of their body depicts a brown/black hue.
