Hey guys,

I've read some on severum behavior around the web but I haven't stumbled upon anything definitive on severum behavior. I have a 75g tank with a mix of cichlids all about the same aggression. Over the last month I've noticed my gold server um really going after the tourq. They are the same size and both eat well. Is this something I should worry about long term. It does stress the tourq out but I'm wondering if its a phase. I was under the assumption that severums weren't overly aggressive. But this guy is definitely an aggressor!!!

Any advice or direction is greatly appreciated.

Added pictures for some face value :)

My Severum is also aggressive, It is constantly attacking my green texas and silver dollars but gets put in its place fairly lively.

They seem to do best either as single fish or in groups of four or more. Usually if you raise them together they're more likely to tolerate each other, but there's always the chance that a dominant fish will go after a submissive fish. It happens with discus about 90% of the time. Do you have another tank you could move one to, or have you thought of rehoming one?

I might have to rehome one. But they are both growing so well. I too have found that to be true I'm discus. Although they grow out of it I found. Severums I found are much more aggresive then the internet would let on. I'll not be putting either in my discus tank. I would like to get more but my 75 is already crowded and I shun and making it worse despite my bad habits of buying more fish. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Another month and I might be posting one for sale. Its funny how one is so dominant over the other tho.

I found from my limited experience with one group of 6 that they had a "grumpy" phase at around 5". Had a pair form that weren't tolerating any tank mates. Ended up keeping another male that was larger and the smallest female that he ignores.

Ya I would say they are coming up on definitely a healthy 4+". They are very round. So I'm thinking the bullying may be just one of those adolescent phases fish sometimes have. I'm hoping it stops because the tourq has actually started developing some nice coloring for what they do get.
