Just looked into my severum tank and found my largest 2 with a clutch of eggs. ive seen them go over the process before but no eggs so i had thought them to be too small still.

I dont really want to breed them as i already have 7 but i also dont want to not give the babies a chance. The parents are guarding and fanning the eggs ( 2 days now), will they continue to look after them or should i look at putting up a barrier or net to keep them babies safe when they become free swimming.

I think its cool they are breeding but i already breed crays for my fish i dont know if i can make excuses for more tanks yet for the fry

Severum are notorious for being horrible parents. I'm actually surprised they haven't eaten the eggs actually.

I think that pretty much answers all of your questions. If you want to give them a chance you're going to need to remove free swimming fry to their own tank and raise them appropriately.

Don't trust the parents. I have been removing the eggs at day two. My severum would eat the eggs at day 3. I have kept the past 2 clutches of eggs, placing them in a bare tank with a heater and sponge filter. All fry are growing nicely.

Good luck!

I say same as tankmates. Feed them well.

I had to take my severum eggs out as mom would eat them on the third day , even left light on one side of the tank , but it is a community tank . I set the eggs in a 1.5 gal with methylene blue and an air stone , and set that up in a 10gal . When the fry were 2 weeks old I set them in the 10gal and put another batch in the 1.5
