Hey guys.... I just want to know what the average sev growth rate and what factors influence them. How fast do sevs grow anyway?

Mine where on the slow side. Not clown loach slow but seemed slower than oscar, texas, JD, or my grows like weeds blue tilapia. Might be me though.

Sevs grow pretty slow. They reach 2-3" in 3-4 months, but after that, is a crawl. And like most cichlids, frequency of water changes, diet, stress and tank size can all impact growth both positively or negatively.

+1 ive got a pair of red spotted and they grew about an inch in overall diameter within about 6 months and now its very slow but they do get to be a good size. They're now at about 4"+. Id say feed a good variety and give them room with not too much stress.

That seems incredibly slow, even for sevs. Severums are suppose to reach their max 10-12" size in 1.5-2 years, which works out to be about 1/2-3/4" growth per month average.

As mentioned Sev's are slow growers. With most scaley fish they grow the quickest in their early years and then slow right down. Large water changes (about 75% per week) and a high quality food will speed it up. I have sometimes found that Sev's can sometimes be rather shy, if they are then the more secure they feel will help them grow, so no big bruisers of tank mates and also lots of hiding spots will generally help them.
