Around a month ago a bought a 125 gallon tank off of Craigslist that came with a couple cichlids. While transporting them however, a red shouldered severum got severely cut up on gravel and got suck to the guys siphon (a python) for around 30 sec while he just kinda pried it off. After that it lost all coloration and turned a dark color with no striping. I wasn’t expecting it to make it through the move but it’s survived around a month (with its condition worsening within the last week or so). My question is if I should move it to an established ten gallon I have for a couple weeks to quarantine and medicate it. The severum is only around 4 inches so I’m hoping size wouldn’t be an issue for a temporary stay. I’m debating the move because I don’t want to stress it out to the point of death. The 10 gallon would allow me to medicate the fish and would keep it safe from the other larger cichlids. Thoughts? Types of medication?

Would move it to the 10g. Keep an eye on it and the other cichlids won’t pick on it.

Would keep the water pristine and add some slat. 1tsp per gallon. Make sure it’s eating. If it’s just a clean open wound then should heal up quick.

Add some pics. Would only medicate if deteriorates or the cut up areas are getting worse.

Thanks so much. I’m going for it. The picture isn’t too good because it’s sitting right by the light. (The water quality is perfect. The yellow is from the lighting). I won’t medicate but I added a double dosage of stress coat already

Remember also, when medicating or upping temps, add more airation to the tank. Alot of meds tend to cut down oxygen levels in the water

Thanks. I decided not to medicate it but I did up the temp some. He’s gained coloration but the main problem is getting him to eat now.

Give him a little time to settle in if you moved him. In a day or two he will give in and eat im sure.

Keep the temps low (78-80). Certain infections can grow and wreak havoc on cichlids especially.
