Severum ID please

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It looked pretty different to the other green severums in the tank. I thought it might be a notatus or inridae because of the prominent spots across the whole body. I picked him up for £10 which is like 17 bucks. Let's see what ryan has to say...

The black spots on the gill would indicate Heros notatus. The yellow coloration on the throat and gill plate would reinforce this.

Cool! It was sold as a green, so I am quite happy to have bought this guy. Thanks for the quick replies everyone.

As with the number of bars, how many does it have?

Nine.

Believe it or not, when I bred my wild H. notatus, a lot of the fry had fused bars like yours until they hit about 4" in size. I'd never known fish to grow out of fused bars (discus, for instance, stay that way permanently if they're born with fused or crooked bars) but a lot of my F1 fry that showed them as small fish didn't have them once they hit sub-adult size. So that fused 7th and 8th bar may or may not stay that way.
