Hopefully someone can give me a little clarification here. I ordered a "rio curare" red tiger severum from wetspot several weeks ago. Right before shipping they called and said that they ran out of the fish I wanted and asked if they could replace it with a "super severum" and I said ok because i had a small window to make the shipping and delivery work. I simply said that I didnt want a ""regular" green severum and they assured me that this was going to be much nicer. On the invoice all it shows is Heros sp Super Severum.

It is about 3.5" and keeps the bars all the time. Sometimes its body gets a little bit darker but generally looks just like the pictures. Sorry for the dirty glass. What do you guys think I have here? A regular green? Hybrid of some sort?

It is an undescribed Heros, Heros sp. Inirida. This fish is found sympatrically with H. liberifer and is often mixed with imports of H. severus (aka Curare, aka Red Tiger). They are one of the prettiest Heros species. Adults usually have red-to-maroon spotting on the body and a glittery emerald green color. They sometimes develop a maroon chest under the gills.

I don’t know why Wet Spot chose to give them the name “super severum” but they’ve done this for several years and they’re the only store I’ve ever seen use that name. IMO the common names forced on fish make the hobby a lot more difficult because there is no standard by which common names are assigned.

If you’d like to see adults, google Heros sp. Inirida. Here is a good example of a pair:
