I was just sitting here watching my 180G CA/SA community tank, and there was a bit of a squabble between my 5" synspilum and one of my 4" gold sevs. The synspilum chased the sev, who darted down, directly into the bottom of the tank. Now the sev is hardly moving, with a twitch of a fin here or there. There is no movement of the gills, but the sev appears to still be alive. Is it possible that the sev is just knocked out, or does is this a fatal injury? Anything I should do in the mean time?

I have no idea what to tell you besides keep us updated? That's really weird, I hope the little guy is alright. Although I've never heard of a knocked out severum before...

Could of paralized itself if it was a straight down shot.. I would put it in another tank if you can so the others don't stress him out or make it worse. Other than that just gotta see if it pulls through, good luck.

That sucks. Could be paralized and it might be knocked out. Whatever it is it would be samrt to put him in another tank.

so, what happened? I've had this happen a couple times; I had a firemouth female who died after smacking the top of the tank, and I've had others just stun themselves for several minutes . . .

The severum did not survive. Shortly after making the first post, she was just floating around the tank with no sense of direction, and little movement. She floated by my HRP's nest with eggs they laid three days ago, and they went after her. She was dead by the time I got her out of the tank. No more than five minutes from the time she hit the ground. What a shame. At least I know how she died, and didn't come home to a mystery death.

This sucks.

sorry this happened.. what a fluke to be sitting there watching your tank .. and out of no where it ends so tragic to lose your severum...
