I just got some severums and it seems they have pop eye. I have great water quality and this was from the previous owner. Will it go away on its own? Or should i treat it? I think it was water quality as they had cloud eye too but that is already cleared up in one day. I just did a water change and added salt. Thanks!

You have to treat it but I think you have to treat whatever the fish has that caused it. We have lost a few sevrums to it I hope someone hear will help you so we csn find out how to cure it.

I dont know what caused it though they had it when i get them but i never got a good look at them as they were already in the bucket!

have been battling a case of popeye with my 7 year old oscar for a month now , its generally caused by bad water quality in which you said the previous owner had , I would love to say its easy but theres lots of schools of thought for treatment. some say epsom salts and a combination of maracyn 1 and 2 mixed together some say lots of water changes and pristine water will take care of it , neither have worked for me but may work for you since its pretty early in stage . good luck

Thanks one of the sevs seems to not have it yet thank god. I hope i can come out on top in the pop eye battle!

Best place to start is daily 20-30% water changes for 4-5 days, if the infection hasn't gone viral you should notice the swelling going down by day 5. I've read about numerous opinions of treatments for this issue however some don't make sense to me. Meds or salts in the water have no direct contact with the inner eye and if the infection has gone viral antibiotics need to be injected because of this. I've also read that once this condition goes viral the antibiotic treatment can take months with little to no chance of saving the eye. Stress is the leading cause of inner eye issues.

Defiantly keep your water pristine, I'd recommend a smaller hospital tank for the time being. Dose with both melafix and pimafix because melafix can help heal bacterial or injury related Popeyes whereas pimafix can help cure fungal sourced pop eye. Good luck and both medications can be used together
