I have a Green severum in a 55 gal.
I used to have 2 in there but the surviving one killed his tankmate one night. :(
I'm thinking a 55 is looking kinda empty with just one 5" severum in it sooo,,
what would suitable tankmates be for a severum in a 55 gal.?
I was thinking about a few tinfoil barbs or silver dollars?
All input is appreciated.
Eric

both of those options will work

tinfoils will probably get too big for a 55, silver dollars would be a better option

the green will eventually fill the tank nicely, if you want something try a group of giant danio. i think with SD it my become too crowded. the the danio, keep a cover on the tank cause i had a group of 5 that all ended up on the floor.

do not try to creak some freak of nature parrot please

Why do people still think Severums can breed with Parrots?

Severums cannot breed outside of the Heros genus and it has been said time and time again that Blood Parrots are simply deformed Midas. (Heiko Bleheh claims to of collected the original specimens)

To add to this, the fish known as 'Golden Severum' in Taiwan is not Heros Efaciatus as we know it, but a hybrid between a Midas and a Vieja Synspila.

Am I reading this correctly, the hundreds of thousands of parrot fish around the world are not hybrids but mutant midas that reproduce with predictable results in regards to their appearance?

I can't even be bothered to go into detail, use the forum search function, this has been covered a lot of times.

Bottom line according to a respected person in the trade (Heiko Bleheh) is Blood Parrots are nothing but retarded line bred Midas.

His statement suggested that the original specimens had good mouths, but the deformity has been line bred in.

I think its a obvious statement that the true Golden Severum (line bred version of Heros Efaciatus) cannot breed outside of the Heros genus, any experienced hobbyist can tell you that.

They will pair off with other fish, even lay eggs, but none will be viable.

Thanks for the information.(the parrot fish info was especially interesting)
I think I'll go with the giant danio's. How many should I go with in my 55 gal.?
