Severum Target Fish

I'm looking at my options for target fish in my 55gal that will house a Red Severum and 3 Raphael Cats. I'd like to stick to the CA/SA region, so i don't want Barbs. I'm worried that Silver Dollars will overcrowd the tank if I go with my typical group of 5.
What do you guys think, or should I just go with the plan without the dithers?

giant danios,buenos aries tetras, black skirt tetras ,any of these might work

I'll look into the tetras, but in sticking with the CA/SA region i'll pass on the Danios. Thanks

or get some little severums? u can keep a few in a 55 as long as ur red isnt huge

id go with buenos aries tetras if ur going that route tho, they live with cichlids in the wild. but depending on your sevs temperment you could go with a number of different tetra species

Bleeding hearts are another good-sized "severum-safe" tetra, which are perhaps not as hectic as some of the others.

Another to add no one has mentioned: Columbian tetras.

I don't have much experience with Severums, but i would think you'd have more options than you would with JD's or O's because of the temperment and mouth size. Silver dollars would have been my suggestion, but I can understand your space concerns.
Like i said, i'm no expert, but i thought Severums weren't very tolerant of other Severums so I'm not sure if that is the right route to go either. I'm sure someone else with a lot more experience can chime in on that topic. Good Luck!
