Hey all,

so my large Green Severum seems to have a scratch on his side that has gotten infected.

Its a large mark with white and red coloration to it. I’ve attached a photo below:

Any treatment recommendations?

This dude has been a sickly fish for a while now. I know it stems from stress from being bullied by my other Severums, which is a situation that will be remedied in the near future. I’ve had no issues with any of my other fish in this tank for years now (besides a short case of bloat with one of my other Severum), but this guy has something pop up every couple months.

Can try some triple sulfa. Dab the area with MB. Feed some hex shield or metroplex.

do you think Kanaplex could be a good option? I’ve had success with that treating his various infections the past couple months.

Could work if it’s aeromonas. But triple sulfa will give a better coverage if it’s not and not gram negative.

You can try a meth blue or paraguard dip. Then move to a quarantine tank were you can medicate and observe.

Thanks,

I'm going to try kanaplex since I have some on hand if that doesn't do anything after a week I'll try triple sulfa.

Also just checked and nitrates are 10 ppm, so I'm happy to see this is not water quality related. Kinda figured that was the case since literally no other fish have had problems for so long.

Would sulfaplex work as well as triple sulfa?

So far the Kanaplex treatment has done nothing.

Sulfaplex is only sulfathiazole (69%) where as Triple Sulfa has 3 variations (Sodium Sulfathiazole 644mg, Sodium Sulfamethazine 168mg, Sodium Sulfacetamide168mg)

Also try a 50% solution hydrogen peroxide swab every two days. The area will turn red but it will fade back in an hour or two. Alternate with meth blue swab, keeping away from the gill areas.
