Hi guys
just wondering if someone can answer a question for me pls,
I bought two severums a few weeks ago one tiger severum and a golden one.
over the last week i noticed that my golden one is developing stripes, i haven't seen this before, is this normal or is this not a golden type of severum?
Thanks in advance.36383528_1913289585388105_4236599725534478336_n.jpg 36455417_1913290882054642_5512360868219715584_n.jpg

Gold severums are a line bred strain of the normal (generic) aquarium severum strain. With any line bred fish, it is very possible for certain natural traits to present as they age.
And as stated above, severums have been in the hobby a very long time, I got my first one in the late 1950s, and at the time the many species we now recognize as separate Hero's species, were lumped into just one. So hybridization (as stated above) is common, and when that occurs those natural trait of some, may present as they age.
Golds are "not" a separate species, in the same manner that gold, red, long fin or tiger oscars are "not" different species, simply man induced color variations of Astronotas ocellatus.
