Thinking about moving my JD into a tank that is a little bit larger. It's a tall tank...... Wondering if I could temporarily (it would be short-term cause the tank is only 50 gals) put my severums in with him..... Any advice on this? Here are pics.

how nasty is your jd? It certainly could work, depending on the agression of each fish. I would try it:)

My JD has been by hiself for a while and prior he had spats with my Oscar when they were together..... But from what I understand the O's aren't as aggressive as the severums.... The larger severum is very spunky. She attacks my finger if I put it on the glass, while the smaller male seems very passive. The 2 sev's get along so don't want to separate them. Really don't want them to hurt the JD or the other way around..... Would the fact that it's a tall tank be a problem?!

Try it! but do it on a day where you can keep an eye on them, but I have found in the past things like jd, red devils, dovii etc do get along if the tank is big enough if they haven’t got there own space its carnage

Space is what i'm worried about since it's a tall tank rather than long.....Wondering if there is something I can work out to open my 55 gal long....

Yeah i think you may get away with it like stotty said do it on a day when you can keep an eye on them. I belive that most of the larger cichlids can get along with each other if given the correct amount of territory. Of the small to medium sized cichlids the JD is proberbly the most pugnacious, hence its common name. It is entirly suited to smaller cichlids such as Firemouths, Convicts and slavin's cichlids so i personally think you may get away with it as severums there average size is about 8" . Trial and error !! hit and miss !

Thanks for the advice. Do you think a tall tank without much ground will be okay though? The 55 gal would be ideal but not sure I can swing it without setting up my empty 45.....

it all depends on the fish as I said do it on a day when you can keep an eye on it all but if he is like my jd it will go off I have had no problems with him in large tanks when ever he has been put in a small tank he tends to get a bit cranky jd can be funny, my one leaves all the cats and knife fish to them self but has a 1 fish battle against a 1 ft orange pike. People give advise on here and a lot of it is good but what works for one man will not for another(or even fish) I had a green terror and he was a :swear: would fight any fish he was put with but when I say to people don’t put a green terror in with that they say it was fine. I know its a bit of a easy way out but I know those fish would be fine in a 6ft + but in a 55 I would not like to say 100%. What is his track record? Has he committed murder before? if not then he could be o.K. if yes I would say don’t do it without being there.
