Hi guys,

My severums have laid eggs for the second time last night (sorry no pics available at the moment).

Just wondering what the best course of action is?

They are mouthbrooders? So I just leave it up to them......tank is full of other medium sized cichlids (jack dempsey, V. breidohri, Blue Acara, Firemouths and Demon Eartheater...oh and a small golden nugget plec).

How long do eggs take to hatch?

If they hatch what do I feed?

Cheers.

Oh and here is my male sev

Looks like a rottkiel sev these are NOT mouthbrooders
if you have a breeding pair you may want to separate them out into at least a 30 gallon
these may defend the eggs/fry but once the fry are free swimming they will be food
you can take the eggs, put them in a small 2 gallon tank with an airstone and hatch them yourself ( add enough methelene blue to color the water medium blue)
takes 24-48 hours to see the "wigglers" which are developeing fry
you can feed newly hatched brine shrimp, or cyclopese to new babies once they are free swimming then switch to finely ground flake or other food
hope this helps
Judy
