I have a planted 75gal and I'm looking for a centerpiece fish for it. I'd like to put a pair of super red severums in there but I have read that they demolish plants. Anybody have experience with severums in a planted tank? Other suggestions if severums won't work? Thanks in advance.

You answered your own question. Severums will tear up most plants. Mine destroy things like Romaine lettuce, so I imagine most plants wouldn't stand a chance.

I have a Green Severum juvenile in my 110 gallon tank. I have some moss, an anubias, and some other sort of plant in there. He nibbles on all of it, but he hasn't messed anything up. He's still pretty small though, so maybe with time he will eat or destroy more of it...

Definitely a no on the Severum. Mine tries to destroy plastic plants! Haha

What about a Chocolate for a centerpiece fish? They get big, have awesome colors and are rarely aggressive. Mine has an awesome personality too. They'd make a good wet pet!

Thanks everybody - disappointed about the sevs though. Rapps has some red ones that look great. I'll look into chocolates. I thought they got too large for a 75.

Chocolates and severums aren't too different when it comes to adult size. My super red severum is a 9 or 10" fish. My chocolate was about 9" when I sold her. I would probably only keep a single large fish like that in a 75 gallon, though a 90 or 125 with a pair plus some smaller cichlid tankmates and dithers would be an awesome choice.
