I never thought it would happen. But heres how it happened:

-My severums laid eggs about three weeks ago. Both severums are about 6-8 inches and were very protective of their spawn as expected.

-After the fry were free swimming I took them out and placed them in a ten gallon tank.

-A week later my texas cichlids spawned on the same piece of wood as the severums did.

-A couple days went buy and the severums pushed the texas cichlids off of the wood and took over. Originally I thought they were going to eat the eggs but now they are protecting them. I am 100% positive they are texas eggs too as I saw them being laid.

-Now I have texas wigglers and two severums protecting them.

I dont think its anything crazy but it was kind of funny how it all worked out. I didnt know if it has happened to anyone else. I wish I would have taken pictures but I dont try to get my fish to spawn so I dont really pay attention. Its just my peacock bass tank with others in it lol.

Lolz i heard of this but it was more intentional. Some other fish lays eggs in another fish's nest and the fish raises the bad fish's eggs to grow. Funny how it works :) Anyway congrats dude.

I had two female green terrors in with my male, I had the smaller one breed first and she had free wigglers when the other female bred in the same tank. When the first babies were free swimmers that female beat up the other a little and stole her wigglers and raised them with hers. I lost track of which babies were which pretty quickly as they ate more and grew into closer sized fry. It might happen again, both females laid eggs again 36 hours apart this week and about a foot away from eachother too.

looks like you have some goood parents there. I have seen similar once I put flowerhorn fry with my creamsicle midas and their spawn and they took the little guys right in
