They have several at lfs deciding wether to get one how big do they get
? What are they like can it be kept with a midas?

They are semi aggressive, no don't put them with your midas. They get roughly 8", though if you measure to the tip of male fin extensions, 10ish. They do very well in community tanks, and can be kept with a large array of tankmates. Great fish!

I currently have 2 red shouldered greens in my 125. Awesome, awesome fish. Not much of an instigator, but no push over either.

I have five with one breeding pair. Pretty solid fish, very personable. They do get 8in in aquaria but I believe the females won't get much more than 6in to be honest. They are a good cichlid community fish as they really don't instigate anything. But, I have seen them fight when pushed too far. As far as your midas, no. Oh, they are very quirky. I've seen mine swim in a circle and then upside down just for fun. If you get them just don't freak out if they do something you might feel is "stupid."

I want Severums!

They can hold their own, but not against an RD I wouldnt have thought.

They can reach 12 inches but in the home aquarium generally 8-10 is standard.

Great fish to keep all in all as they are not hugely territorial compared to other fish of similar sizes.

severums have become my favorite fish after all these years of cichlid keeping

i love my severum and so does everyone in my family. they have such personality and their color variation is incredible. definatly not with a RD or a midas. they are very peaceful fish. but they do have a dark side, they will fight over territory if they have to. in my case my 5" male green severum gets in fights with a 3" rainbow.(but nothing serious) they tur sideways to protect them selves instead of just flaring and liplocking. and they will whip their tails in the other fish's face.

I have a blind severum that is insanely aggressive, but it could never hold its own against a red devil. I've seen severums the size of a dinner plate. (about 12") Mine's only 8" right now.
