Every time I see sevs even in a large tank of their own they seem to breath heavier than other fish,What givs? And how many to a 125 would do,how big do they get?

I had a turquoise severum that got to be about 7" in a 240gal. That fish died recently of unknown causes. I liked that fish so much, that I bought a baby turq. at Petsmart about 3 weeks ago to replace it. It's growing out in a 75gal. You could put several in a big tank if you wanted to. Don't know about the breathing thing. Maybe the fish you saw were stressed, or the oxygen levels in the tank were low.

A store here in my town has about 8 in a 90 gallon.about 6 inches. They look great believe it or not.

Probably overstocked by home standards but not LFS standards. I've seen that many big ones in far less space at LFS before :(

I have 4 in a 60" long 100 gallon. One 8 1/2" male, and 6 1/2", 6", & 4" females. There is a 7" pleco, a 10 1/2" Royal CK, and a 12" CK in there too. I do two 25 percent water changes a week and have twin under gravel filters hooked up to a pair of Powerhead 350's, and run two Emperor 400's on it. I also have two 23" foam aerator strips and a 9watt Turbo Twist UV sterilizer. My sevs cruise around with their mouth closed. Maybe try airstones?

I have a 9" female gold sev in a 55 gallon with an 11" pleco and a 12" oscar. No breathing heavy there either. But, I have two 18" foam aerator strips in there also and one Emperor 400.
