My lfs has got some 2-3" Severums that look somewhat greenish in color. I know they get hybridized but they look somewhat like the green severum.
They are hard to come by at my place so I was wondering why not get a breeding pair.
I currently have a 36*18*18 40b , and uve got some questions
should I get 6 and let them pair off?
at what size do they generally pair ?
Should I get dithers?
And how long could a pair last in a 40 b?
I have my exam on 28th oct and after the exam can I only get a new tank.
Thanks.
I'll get some pics when I go there ?

"Green severum" is the common hobby Heros that has been around forever. So, unless it's a gold variety, it's the most common type you'll see at a lfs. Since for years little or no distinction was made between different populations or even species of Heros they generally have mixed genetics and can be somewhat variable in appearance. That said they're still a nice fish, some very pretty as adults, and some will resemble wild populations, probably reflecting what's in their bloodline.

At 2-3 inches it's going to be a while before you get a pair ready to breed. Hard to predict exactly because it depends on their actual age now. It's more about age than size and depending on their genetics and conditions they've been raised in, growth and size will vary. Meanwhile a group of 6 juveniles would outgrow your tank soon and a mature pair needs a larger tank, especially in length. Pairs tend to fight more in smaller tanks. The whole subject of minimum tank size is a matter of opinion and can result in arguments, so I usually avoid getting into those discussions, but, honestly, I'd consider a 75 gal tank as a minimum for a pair to be comfortable and for some of the larger growing Heros types a 75 would be small.
