Severus in a 55 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It would be a pretty tight squeeze. They get 8-10 inches which doesn’t offer much room to turn around. I wouldn’t do less than a 75 for the extra width.

For a big adult male severum 55 would be tight. Especially the larger growing species like curare.

Consider Heroina cichlids if you like severums but a bit smaller growing. They can be hard to find though. Sometimes COTA offers them.

Mesonauta cichlids are also a good choice and are widely available.

Ok I’ll try the heroina cichlid but I can’t find much information about them could you please tell me if you know any basic info on them so you could share it. Thanks a lot

I had a lovely green severum who, if memory serves correctly, was 9” in my 75 and honestly he looked like he barely had enough space. I wouldn’t do anything smaller than a 75. I know you’re thinking about a different fish for your 55 now but I wanted to share my personal experience with you comrade.

Ok, thanks for the help.then If a Severum is to big for a 55 gallon. What other fish could I go for?
