Could be a male but females can get humps too, only way to be sure is to vent, also as far a Midas or Red Devil it is usually assumed that it is a hybrid of the two since most of these fish sold at LPS are, unless you purchased it from a reputable dealer like Rapps this is usuall the case, really it doesnt matter, its a good looking fish.

View attachment 366850the above two replies are right on.. no sure way to sex unless you vent..or if she lays eggs...other wise just look for tube and see how it is shaped and what direction it is pointed..
this beauty looks more RD to me because of the lips.. lips are thick and big on RD.. where midas have thinner trimmed lips...there are other characteristics too..but usually this is enough for me to judge.. although now quite ofter RDs and Midas are mixed.. even when one has all the characteristics of one or the other... and yes they have the same personalities.. each fish is an individual with its own personality but over all both midas and RD's are aggressive ...The male has more pointed anal fin than the female.

at that size with that kind of hump, unless there are eggs she's protecting then I'd say it's a male. this is just an educated guess mind you, no way it can be 100% but I'm sure enough that I'd put a decent amount of money on it. :D

as for rd or midas, as wiseman82 said, chances are it's a hybrid of the 2 unless you got it from a reputable source. Based on physical characteristics it does, imo, lean a little bit more towards RD though. :)

Thanks for the venting pictures Liz.
I am sure this will come in handy in the future.
Right now I don't want to stress out my Male RD Hybrid.

He is a Pets Mart Mutt, but quite a character.
He is in a 180 gal with a juvenile GT, a large male JD a Rafael cat, and 4 Silver Dollars. He used to be more aggressive, but has been very mellow lately. I think he realizes he has no real competition. I recently had to remove a female Trimac that was picking on him.

Thanks to all for the info.
