Tyvm. I kept examining them and besides your description, I observed their demeanor towards each other. 1 & 3 could be female and 2456 are males.

My 13 inch male without nuchal hump, the forehead is still slightly steeper then a females, but they really are hard to sex.

Michael 10 year old pair
Vieja bifasciata Rio Candelaria:

Bifas is hard to sex until they pair up and lay eggs. I have this one for over 5 years, I assume it is a female because of the plump shape. So I try to match it with another assumed male Bifa based on the present of a small hump and slender shape. The two never get along and get into vicious fight. So I had to separate them perpetually. I either have two male or two female. Both fish are under 11" and the small size suggests they are female. However, if any one is a female, she should have laid eggs or attempted to lay eggs by now even without a mate as many egg layers do. So I may never know it's gender till the end it's life.

In the Candelario BF video two post above, the female of the mated pair could easily be mistaken as a male as she exhibits a decent size hump if she is seen alone. Go figure how hard it is to sex.

To sex them I need a few side by side or one confirmed to compare against, the differences are very slight.
Female biffas can be just as stunning as males, the one in the video is over ten years old now.

This bifa, My largest at 8" is a confirmed male. It got it on with my RD. His tube dropped and it was significantly thinner than the egg laying RD. Plus he went over and over the rock where the eggs were laid.

Here are photos of my two unknown sex Bifas. They are 5-6 year old, full grown at 10", and both have a small hump. Except that one is pluma than the other, there is no external difference between the two. They are in separate tank houses with a Samzi and Zaire Front, so Front and Vieja are perfect tankmates having similar temperament and water requirement.

4 of their siblings were sold to my friend and have laid eggs a few times. Until they drop their egg and sperm tube during spawning, we can't sex them off breeding time because they have zero sexual dimorphism. Many reported that male Bifas can hit 14" so size can be used to sex. But my strain stays smaller, all under 11".
