Well what size tank do you have them in? I only ask because convicts are very moody, and can turn their colors on and off when the mood suits. I once had my male when he was a juvenile, in my 6.6 gallon, and due to it being so small a space, he showed a lot of pink behind his pectoral fins, and his bars were faded. I thought he was a she. When I scooped him out and placed him in my 20, his bars immediately got darker and the pink spot disappeared. Hence his sex was no longer a question.
