1 or 2 jewels on cheek is too little. most females look like this ....
Here is a good comparison of a male and female JD....Female on right male on left...notice the gill plate...yours doesn't have those bunched up spangles like most females do...
Just because they are cheap, and common, does not make them any less of a fish, than any other fish. This is a common debate, and open forum. I understand that to some it is easy to treat the beginner stuff like it is less important, but the beginners are the future of the hobby. There is at least one person who will see this thread, and be thankful that it was made/discussed.
I have many different types of fish, some common, some not so common. JD's have alway's been my favorite. I would get rid of all my fish and tanks with the exception of my JD tank...it's hard to beat the shear beauty of a fully mature male Jack Dempsey...IMO
