Well the area in between the anal fins is best but even a good side shot can help. Basically what you're looking for in venting would be this.

Female: oO

Yea I wouldn't go by any physical traits. Other than venting. There's a lot of bad info out there (males have longer fins, females have black spots, males have blah blah blah) it's all crap. Females can have fins just as long and pointy as males, and coloration is never a safe guideline (except cons and a few others). Venting is accurate. Just as accurate as pulling a humans pants down.
