Sex my ornates

I think i have a pair. Just want to confirm. I have no intention of breeding. Is it that the males have a longer anal fin? So the first picture would be a male and the second fish a female? The "male" is roughly 15 inches and the "female" 12.

Umm i think it actually goes by the thickness of the anal fin but not 100% sure..... Hopefully an expert jumps in the thread.....

The first pic looks like a female to me. The second isn't clear at all. You need a pic of the entire fin spread out. While swimming/floating works best.

Hard to tell from the pics, first looks female second male. Male anal fins will be broad and muscular around the base. Often you will see them "cup" the fin. Some pictures of them off the bottom in profile would tell for sure. I am sure my big ornate could carry around a large marble when he is cupping his fin.

I think you got it backwards, longer and skinny is female, thicker and broader is male.
