It is 12 1/2 inches long and i know that males have a hump on their heads when the mature, so i think its a female but i would like a second opinion.

if it's the only fish in the tank it's not going to show it's neuchal hump if it has one. but in all probability, it's female.
Kinda hard to tell from pictures unless you have the nuchal hump showing with other pbass in the tank.. you can try and vent him/her.. heres a good thread on it http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=152070&highlight=venting
